Citing her husband’s suicide note, Jennifer stated in the FIR that Nitin had borrowed Rs 50,000 from three moneylenders — Mahesh Rabari, Champa Rabari and Sendha Rabari, residents of Jivraj Park — around two years ago.
The moneylenders first cut Rs 12,000 as ‘interest’ and gave Nitin just Rs 38,000. Then they began recovering money from him as interest and penalties and ended up taking Rs 5 lakh and his gold ring.
Nitin’s suicide note said the accused had forged a document showing that he had borrowed Rs 5 lakh from them, the FIR alleges.
The FIR states that on Monday Sendha had come to Nitin’s house and began abusing him with caste-based slurs while demanding Rs 18 lakh and threatening to kill him. After a while, when a neighbour peeked inside Nitin’s house, she found Nitin hanging.
Sendha, who was still outside Nitin’s house, saw Nitin dead and fled.
Vasna police registered a case of accidental death and began an investigation.
Jennifer found the suicide note and handed it over to the cops after which Vasna police registered a complaint of abetment of suicide against Mahesh, Champa and Sendha. The accused were also booked under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Gujarat Money-Lenders Act.
