33 lakh Amdavadis screened: 19% had high BP, 17% had diabetes

Ahmedabad: Over the past five years, 33 lakh citizens were screened at AMC health centres, and 19% of them were found to have hypertension, and 17.2% of them were diagnosed with diabetes. The data was collected from different areas, with approximately 6.2 lakh individuals diagnosed with hypertension and approximately 5.6 lakh with diabetes.An official from the AMC, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that during the Covid-19 pandemic, urban health centres were used for vaccinations and child immunizations. These centres provide free tests and treatments for various diseases. The corporation operates 82 urban health centres.
After the pandemic, many citizens visited these centres for vaccinations, prompting the state health department to focus on non-communicable diseases. The corporation is collecting data on patients with hypertension, diabetes, and cancer for analysis. The 33 lakh citizens were screened from 2021 to 2025 and medication was provided to those diagnosed with diseases. The data was collected on diabetes, cervical cancer, and hypertension. The official added that the central govt aims to reduce non-communicable diseases by 30% by 2030. Screening citizens over 30 is essential to this mission. Identifying and treating these patients is crucial because cardiac problems are among the most dangerous non-communicable diseases.
