2 Chinese nationals held for smuggling red sandalwood

In a third such incident within three weeks, two Chinese nationals were held today by the Customs department for allegedly trying to smuggle red sandalwood out of country at Ahmedabad international airport.

AHMEDABAD: In a third such incident within three weeks, two Chinese nationals were held today by the Customs department for allegedly trying to smuggle red sandalwood out of country at Ahmedabad international airport.
According to Customs officials, the Chinese duo was headed to Doha by a Qatar Airlines flight. When they arrived at the airport today morning to board the flight, Customs officials checked their luggage and found 127.9 kg of red sandalwood in the form of garlands made out of sandalwood beads.

Upon finding the prohibited item, officials seized the sandalwood and detained the duo for further investigation.
Earlier, the Customs department nabbed a group of nine Chinese nationals with 419.5 kg of sandalwood on April 22.
On May 5, four Chinese nationals were held at the airport while trying to smuggle 174.9 kg of sandalwood.
