Vegetable vendor shot dead at home in Bareilly
Bijnor: A 40-year-old vegetable vendor was shot dead in front of his wife at his home in Pragati Nagar under the Subhash Nagar police station limits in Bareilly district on Saturday, police said.The victim, Jogendra Lodhi, a native of the Amla area, was sleeping with his wife in the verandah of their under-construction house when they heard footsteps on the roof. When Lodhi stepped out to check, two unidentified men allegedly opened fire, shooting him in the chest before fleeing the spot.His wife, Anita Rani, raised an alarm, alerting neighbours and the couple's two children who were sleeping inside. Senior officers, along with the Subhash Nagar police team, reached the scene and began an investigation.Bareilly SP (city) Manush Pareek said, "A case has been registered on the basis of the wife's complaint. We are treating it as a violent home invasion and have formed multiple teams to trace the unidentified assailants. The body has been sent for postmortem."Officials added that patrolling has been intensified in the area. Police are examining CCTV footage from nearby residential buildings and questioning local suspects.
