UP woman, 41, who eloped with daughter’sfiance last yr, now vanishes with bro-in-law
Agra: Months after Apna Devi created headlines by running away with her daughter's 20-year-old would-be husband, Rahul Kumar, the 41-year-old woman has done it again. This time, she has vanished with her brother-in-law.But now, though, police have promised to look into the matter after Kumar reached the cops' doorstep on Wednesday with a "heartfelt" complaint, requesting for "huge favour".In his complaint in Aligarh district's Dado thana, Kumar, now a year older, stated he used to sell clothes at the India-Nepal border, and in his absence, his wife eloped with her brother-in-law, Devendra, in his mid-30s. She also took away Rs 2 lakh and jewellery kept in the house, Kumar claimed."Around 8:30am on Feb 6, I left for the border. My wife was alone back at home. And when I returned, I found that she had disappeared... I request you to take legal action against her," he further stated. However, there is more to the story. A local cop said that the woman had also approached them on Thursday with her take on the matter. Apna claimed that she "left" Kumar because he was regularly harassing her.DSP (Dado area), Sanjeev Kumar Tomar, added Rahul Kumar was staying with Apna Devi somewhere near the Nepal border.
Both belong to Aligarh. "We've received a complaint and are looking into the latest incident," said another cop in Aligarh. The current episode rekindles memories of last April, when the same woman, then 40, had disappeared with Kumar, nine days before her daughter's wedding. It all happened on April 6, when the groom-to-be left home under the pretext of shopping for wedding attire. Later that evening, he made a phone call to his father, saying, "I'm leaving. Don't try to find me." Around the same time, the bride's mother also vanished without a trace. That case, registered at the district's Mandrak area, became a major talking point, with reports that the pair left with around Rs 2.5 lakh in cash and jewellery, shocking both families. At that time, Apna had told police that "she wanted to live with Kumar for the rest of her life".(With inputs from Arun Singh)
