Undertrial prisoner shot at tehsil premises in UP’s Mathura

AGRA: Karamveer, an undertrial, who had involved in the killing of a kin of a UP cabinet minister,

Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary

, was allegedly shot at and injured by two bike-borne unidentified assailants in Chhatta tehsil premises in

Mathura

on Thursday.

According to police, the incident occurred around 3:30 pm, when the police was taking Karamveer back to district jail after his appearance in a court case. He was inside the police vehicle when the assailants shot him from behind.

He was immediately rushed to a private hospital, where his condition is said to be out of danger. He sustained a bullet injury on his shoulder. However, he might have to undergo a surgery as the bullet is reportedly struck in his spinal chord, said a police officer.

Mathura SSP Babloo Kumar told TOI that a team has been formed to nab the assailants and very soon they will be arrested.

According to police, Karamveer had given ‘supari’ (contract) for the killing of the minister’s kin, a former Pradhan, Sarman Singh, with whom he had some old enmity.
