AGRA: Two undertrial prisoners facing charges of murder and attempt to murder escaped from a police van, while they were returning to Aligarh prison in police custody from a hearing in juvenile board on Saturday.
Police said, the accused, Mukesh alias Chotu and Sageer, in the age group of 20s, were lodged in Aligarh prison in October 2017 and November 2018 respectively.

On Saturday, when the prisoners were being taken back to Aligarh prison after a court hearing in Hathras, they escaped from the van after reportedly breaking the iron net, said police.
Talking to reporters, the van driver Mahipal Singh, said that they got to know about the prisoners’ escape when they reached the Aligarh jail. He said, they slowed down at a speed breaker near Madrak and possibly they took an opportunity to escape. Besides the driver, head constable Afroz Khan and constable Firoz Ali were also present in the van.
According to Aligarh Jailor, Pramod Kumar, the duo were facing several cases and 21 warrants were issued against Mukesh and four against Sageer in various cases.
Hathras ASP Siddhartha Verma said that the matter is being inquired and an FIR will be registered against the prisoners and the police personnel. A manhunt has been lodged to nab the accused, he said.
