AGRA: UP Congress chief Raj Babbar’s daughter and actress Juhi Babbar may contest legislative assembly election, representing the party from Agra South constituency.

“The talks of Juhi Babbar making her political debut from Agra has become a matter of excitement among Congress workers,” said a source.
A senior Congress leader said, “She understands politics well and has extensively campaigned for her father. In 2009 she managed to convince actor Salman Khan to campaign for her father in Firozabad parliamentary constituency by-election. She herself put in a lot of hard work due to which Raj Babbar was able to defeat chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple Yadav. She will definitely prove to be a winning candidate for the party. Besides this, she will strengthen the winning prospects of the party in other constituencies in the district as well.”
Daughter of Raj Babbar and veteran actress Nadira Babbar, the plan to field her from Agra South is aimed at Muslim vote polarization as her mother’s Muslim background will benefit Congress.
Nadira is likely to campaign for her daughter and attract Muslim and women votes, which can be around 50,000 in number. Congress is also aiming at 20,000 Sindhi and Punjabi votes on the basis of Raj Babbar’s personal connections. According to experts, these dynamics, with various other factors, make Juhi Babbar a suitable candidate for the seat.
UP Congress committee vice president Pradeep Kansal said, “These are all speculations and have no reasonable backing. Party has not taken any decision regarding South constituency.”
Juhi Babbar has worked in several Hindi and Punjabi films. She has been closely associated with the theatre and had worked with her mother in various theatre productions. She is married to television actor Anup Soni.
