Mother held for ‘killing’ toddler daughter, dumping body in drain in UP

AGRA: A 35-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday for allegedly murdering her two-year-old daughter, whose body was found in a drain near the Yamuna riverbank in Chatta area of Agra district on Tuesday.Chatta SHO Ankur Malik said police zeroed in on the parents after scanning CCTV footage, which showed the toddler’s mother Mamta leaving their house in Dhakran area with the child. She returned alone after some time.A murder case has been registered against the child’s mother. Prima facie, the woman allegedly killed her daughter after some domestic dispute with her husband, Ramu Dhakad.SHO Malik said Mamta is short-tempered and might have killed her child in anger. No one else’s involvement has been found in the case so far.Mamta is a native of Bihar while her husband is a local resident. The couple had been married for the past three years.Assistant commissioner of police Sheshmani Upadhyay confirmed the arrest and said further legal proceedings are underway.On Tuesday evening, passersby spotted the toddler’s body lying in the drain near the Yamuna Aarti site and informed police. After sending the body for postmortem, police began scanning CCTV footage in the area and identified the girl.
