Meerut: A 40-year-old confectionery shop owner was shot dead near Kurali Dharamshala on Baghpat road in Meerut late Saturday night. The incident came to light when a customer arrived around 10.45 pm and found Naresh Kumar, a resident of Kurali village, lying in a pool of blood at the shop’s entrance and informed the police.Cope rushed to the shop, took custody of the body and informed Kumar’s family members. Two .32bore empty cartridges were found from the crime scene.“Preliminary investigation suggests that the murder may have stemmed from a monetary dispute with a customer. The assailant shot Naresh in the head. There is no evidence of any rivalry or old enmity. Only Naresh’s shop was open at that time in the area,” said SHO Akhilesh Mishra.“CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined. The body was handed over to the family after post-mortem examination on Sunday,” said Mishra.
