AGRA: A man and his sister-in-law were found hanging from a tree with the same sari in Mainpuri's Bakhtpura village early Saturday morning, hours after they went missing from home, police said.
The bodies of Sarojini (30) and Akhilesh Kumar (18) were spotted around 4 am by farmers heading to their fields, who alerted the police. A team reached the spot, brought the bodies down and sent them for post-mortem examination.
Police said both had attended a local religious event in the village on Friday evening and later visited the Sheetla Mata temple, returning home around 8 pm. They left the house again around 11 pm and did not return.
Their bodies were found hanging from a tree located about 400 metres from their house within the village.
Sarojini was married to Pushpendra, who works at a brick kiln in Rajasthan's Bikaner, and the couple has two children. Police said the exact circumstances leading to the deaths are yet to be established.
A forensic team collected evidence from the spot, while surveillance teams were also assisting in the probe. No formal complaint has been filed by the family so far. "The case is being investigated from all angles, and further action will depend on the post-mortem findings," DSP (city) Santosh Kumar said.
