: A plot of land, measuring three bighas, allotted for the construction of a panchayat office in Kasimpur village under Sheetalpur block of
Etah
district has “mysteriously” gone missing. The
gram
pradhan claimed that "it was allegedly encroached by some people in connivance with revenue department officials.”
Gram pradhan
Sarvendra Singh Yadav
told TOI, “Land consolidation in the village was done in the 1960s, and at that time, a plot of land measuring three bighas was earmarked for the construction of a panchayat house. Currently, this plot has been encroached upon by a group of locals and are using it for farming. I came to know about the allotted land after getting elected as gram pradhan last year. I raised the issue with local authorities, and the district magistrate sought a report from the revenue department officials."
"In connivance with the encroachers, the tehsildar, without doing any physical inspection, presented a report that no land is available in the village for construction of a panchayat house. However, the old land records provide details in this regard. How can a piece of land go missing?” Yadav alleged. District panchayati raj officer
Manoj Tyagi told TOI, “We have taken cognizance of the complaint. The matter is being investigated by the block development officer. No encroachment will be allowed on government land. In a total of 18 villages, the construction of panchayat offices has not progressed due to non-availability of land. We are pursuing the matter with the revenue department.”
“I will raise the issue at a higher level. Besides the panchayat office, local authorities have not been able to construct a community toilet in the village. Despite repeated requests, revenue dept officials have failed to take back the government land from the encroachers," said the pradhan.
