AGRA: Following “rumours” of
IT raids on businessmen indulging in
exchange of demonetized currencies
in Mathura and Vrindavan on Friday afternoon,
Akhil Bhartiya Udyog Vyapar Mandal
threatened to close down the markets indefinitely.
Talking to TOI, vice president of Akhil Bhartiya Udyog Vyapar Mandal (ABUVM), Murari Agarwal said a meeting was called all the businessmen in the area and they decided to meet the DM and Income Tax officials on Saturday to ensure that no one faces harassment.
He said, “We all are against ‘black money’ but threat of IT raids spread unnecessary “fear” and this would not be tolerated. In 1998, Vyapari sangathan had verbal agreement with the government that IT department would not harass businessmen and will inform vyapar mandal and then conduct raids and videography will also be conducted.
He said, if this agreement is violated, we will "shut down" the entire state.
The rumours were apparently sparked of the Income Tax raids in Delhi, Mumbai and other cities in the wake of reports of alleged profiteering and subsequent tax evasion by traders by converting withdrawn currency notes in an illegal manner on Thursday.
