HIV+ undertrial dies in Mathura Jail

A 25-year-old HIV+ undertrial prisoner, who was lodged in Mathura jail six months ago in a case of attempt to murder, died on Friday morning.

AGRA: A 25-year-old HIV+ undertrial prisoner, who was lodged in Mathura jail six months ago in a case of attempt to murder, died on Friday morning.
According to jail officials, he was arrested in a case of attempt to murder and was diagnosed HIV+ during a blood test in the jail. He was admitted to the prison hospital on October 13 after he complained of uneasiness and was discharged after treatment.

However on Friday morning, he again complained of chest pain and breathing difficulty and was rushed to the district hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
Senior jail superintendent Shailendra Kumar Maitrey said that the postmortem report mentions heart failure as cause of death. He added that the autopsy was conducted by a team of doctors and videographed too.
The senior jail superintendent further said that the prisoner was facing charges under sections 352 (assault or use of criminal force) and 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC.
