six months ago, died on Friday morning.


According to jail officials, he was arrested in a case of attempt to murder and was found to be HIV positive during a blood test sampling in the jail. He was admitted to the prison hospital on October 13 after he complained of discomfort and was discharged after the treatment.

At around 5.30am on Friday, he again complained of chest pain along with breathing problem and was immediately taken to the district hospital but doctors there declared him brought dead.

Talking to TOI, senior jail superintendent, Shailendra Kumar Maitrey, said that the postmortem report revealed heart failure as a cause of the death. He said the postmortem was conducted by a team of doctors and it was videographed too.

He told TOI that the prisoner was lodged in the jail under Section 352 (assaults or uses criminal force to any person otherwise than on grave and sudden provocation given by that person) and Section 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC.
