Agra: In an attempt to ensure timely treatment, the family of a 10-year-old boy at Barsoli Prem Nagar village in Hathras rushed him to a hospital carrying the snake that bit him along with them, hoping it would help doctors identify the species and administer the right anti-venom.The incident took place when Nirmal Kumar, a Class 5 student, was lifting a sack of cauliflower in a field. The snake, locals said, was hiding beneath the sack and struck suddenly, triggering panic.Acting quickly, family members caught the snake, placed it in a plastic container, and took the boy to a nearby doctor. He was later referred to the district hospital.Nirmal’s uncle, Prem Singh, said the child screamed in pain immediately after the bite. As a first-aid measure, the family tied a cloth around his leg before capturing the yellow-coloured snake, estimated to be around 2 feet long.At the district hospital, doctors administered anti-venom injections and intravenous fluids while closely monitoring his condition. After several hours of observation, Nirmal was declared out of danger and discharged. “The boy responded well to treatment and was stabilised promptly,” Hathras district hospital chief medical superintendent (CMS) Surya Prakash said.
In a similar incident earlier this year, a man in Mathura brought a live snake to a hospital after claiming it had bitten him. Deepak, 39, an e-rickshaw driver, pulled out the 1.5-foot-long snake from his jacket pocket while seeking treatment, alarming patients and staff. Hospital authorities intervened immediately. CMS Neeraj Agrawal said the patient was immediately asked to remove the reptile as it posed a risk to others.(Input from Sumit Sharma)
