AGRA: Mainpuri Police on Wednesday booked a

local private doctor

in connection with the

death of a one-year-old boy

, following charges that he denied giving him treatment, as his parents did not have "acceptable" currency to pay.

According to Kush's parents, Dr AK Jain had refused to accept payment in Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, forcing him to take away his child without treatment. Kush dies on Sunday morning. SP, Mainpuri, Sunil K Saxena, said FIR was registered under section 304 A (death due to negligence) this morning after receiving a complaint from child’s mother, Reena Devi.

Ironically, while the police has booked the doctor, a two-member committee formed by District Magistrate, Chandrapal Singh on Sunday to inquire into the circumstances leading to the child's death, has virtually given a clean chit to him on grounds that Kush was taken away against the doctor's advise, despite being made aware of its dangers.

Dr KK Sharma, CMO, Mainpuri, a member of the inquiry team, said he had submitted the report and further action on it would be taken by the DM.

According to deceased’s father Raju, a

resident of Padampur village

, his son Kush was suffering from fever and was being treated by a child specialist, Dr AK Jain in Mainpuri, on Saturday night. He said, the doctor was treating his son till he had money in Rs 100 notes but once he ran out of them and had only a Rs 500 note left, he advised him to take Kush to a government hospital where his currency would be accepted..
Raju said with no option left, he took his son away and Kush died shortly afterwards.

District magistrate Chandrapal Singh

had formed a two member committee to investigate the matter.
