AGRA: Citing inconvenience in cleaning sewer lines on M G Road, civic body authorities here have written a letter to the public works department asking them to remove concrete paved over manholes as part of footpath works on the stretch from Soor Sadan to Hariparwat.
Sources from the Agra municipal corporation said that PWD employees, laying footpath as part of the road widening works in the area, have blocked manholes by covering it with concrete.

Sources added that the sanitation workers are unable to clean the sewer lines due to this.
Earlier in the year, mayor Naveen Jain had asked civic body officials to conduct an inspection of drains in the city and undertake cleaning works, wherever necessary. A ground assessment by civic body engineers revealed that manholes on the M G Road stretch from Soor Sadan to Hariparwat were completely covered with concrete as part of the PWD works on the footpath.
Talking to TOI, chief engineer Tarun Sharma said, “It is completely wrong on the part of the PWD officials to cover the drains. Such an unplanned approach has not only led to wastage of funds, but also cause much inconvenience to residents.”
PWD executive engineer Tarachand Dohray was not available for comments.
