Agra: A 28-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her 25-year-old brother-in-law in Mainpuri district after a dispute during a game of ludo, police said on Tuesday.
Accused Rishabh Kumar, a cousin of the woman's husband, was playing ludo with the victim, Poonam, on March 10 when other family members were not at home. During the game, he pinched her. When she objected and threatened to inform her husband and family, the argument escalated.
Police said the accused dragged her into the kitchen and strangled her. In an attempt to mislead investigators, he removed the SIM card from her mobile phone and fled. Initially, the husband lodged a complaint against unknown persons. During the probe, police traced the location of the missing SIM card, which led them to the accused.
He was arrested on Monday in Kurra police station area. Police said both families lived in a relatively isolated locality. During interrogation, he confessed, saying the altercation during the game led to the attack. A case under BNS Section 103 (murder) has been registered against him.
DSP Ajay Singh Chauhan said, "On March 10, police received information about the death of a woman under suspicious circumstances in Anoopur Dhila village. The alert was conveyed to Kurra police through the emergency helpline, after which a team reached the spot."
