AGRA: The Aligarh police on Sunday night arrested four persons, including a daily wage clerk and an ex-student of
Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), in connection with the paper leak of MBA entrance exam held earlier in the day. Around 2,600 students appeared for entrance test on Sunday.
During interrogation, the accused told police that they had also leaked the exam paper of Bachelor of Library and Information Sciences (BLISc), conducted on May 23.
Haider had given this test, said police. On Monday, the vice chancellor of the university ordered the cancellation of the entrance examinations for BLISc and MBA, and decided to hold these on June 15 and 16 respectively.
According to police, the matter came into light after one “unused” question paper booklet was found missing at the time of counting the used and unused question paper booklets. The matter was immediately reported to the senior superintendent of police (SSP) by university authorities. SSP Akash Kulhari said the mastermind of the paper leak was Firoz Alam alias Raza, who was arrested along with his associate Haider Ali, an ex-student of AMU. The other two include the clerk, Tariq Khan and Mohammad Irshad, who was hired by the university as a helper for providing water to candidates in the examination hall.
Police said investigations revealed that Irshad stole one unused question paper booklet of a student, who was absent, and gave it to Alam. Then, Alam and his associate Haidar Ali went to one Ahmed’s apartment where three problem solvers -- Ishtiaq, Shahzeb and Akram -- were waiting. Haider then sent the solved paper to his girlfriend, who was in the examination hall, through WhatsApp. The solved paper was allegedly sent to five other MBA aspirants, who were part of that WhatsApp group, said police.
Firoz and Haider again came back to the university and handed over the booklet to Irshad, who gave it back to clerk Tariq so that it could be placed in the bundle of unused booklets, but Tariq could not get the opportunity to do that.
Police registered an FIR against five persons -- Tariq Khan, Mohd Irshad, Firoz Alam, Haider and Akram under sections 3/4/5/6/7/9/10 of Uttar Pradesh Public Examinations Act, 1998, and sections 420 (cheating), 406 (committing criminal breach of trust) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC on the basis of a complaint filed by AMU Prof. Iffat Asgar.
