AGRA: The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday thwarted attempts by various right-wing Hindu organisations to take out ‘Tiranga Yatras’ across West UP in connection with the Kasganj violence following the death of a youth in a firing incident on Republic Day.
The processions, which were planned by RSS affiliates including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal were stopped as prohibitory orders had been imposed in most of the districts in West UP to maintain law and order.

In Agra, despite the prohibitory orders, nearly 1,000 people gathered at Shahid Smarak in the city for the procession. However, the district administration didn’t allow the march to proceed to the collector’s office.
District magistrate (DM) Gaurav Dayal told TOI that since the organisations had not taken prior permission for the procession, they were not allowed to carry it out. “As they wanted to give a memorandum to the CM on the Kasganj violence, we accepted it at Shahid Smarak,” he said.
Dayal also said that section 144 of CrPC was in force in the city and he would examine as to how the people were allowed to assemble and would take action accordingly.
Vice-president of VHP, Braj region, Sunil Parashar said that there was no need to seek prior permission for ‘Tiranga Yatras’ from the police or the administration. He said, “We are not anti-nationals. It is not a crime to carry out a Tiranga Yatra in India. Today’s rally was organized to convey a message to traitors who had killed patriotic Chandan Gupta in Kasganj. Let them come out today. We ready to lay down our lives and face the bullets.”

The activists shouted slogans of ‘Jai Sri Ram’, ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ and ‘Hindustan me rehna hai to Vande Mataram kehna hai’ before submitting a memorandum to the district authorities.
In Firozabad, the police stopped Bajrang Dal’s Tiranga Yatra at Kotla Chowki. Circle officer, city, Arun Kumar said that they were stopped as they were taking out a procession without permission.
VHP leaders also demanded the status of martyr for Chandan Gupta, compensation of Rs 50 lakh to his family, a government job to one of his relatives, a house and the release of all the Hindus arrested in connection with the clashes since Republic Day.
The rallies were also stopped in Mathura, Bareilly and Aligarh. Swapnil Mangain, senior superintendent of police of Mathura told TOI that section 144 of CrPC was in force and no one was allowed to take out processions.
However, five former Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) MLAs were detained in Aligarh while they were going to Kasganj to meet Gupta’s family members.
Talking to media, president of West UP unit of RLD, Anil Chaudhary criticized the action and said that their mission was to spread communal harmony. He accused BJP MP Rajveer Singh of creating communal tension through his “provocative” speeches in Kasganj.
