Agra: In a high-profile case from Mathura, seven were sentenced to life in prison for the 2017 murder and robbery of two jewellers. The court imposed fines of Rs 20,000 on each of the convicts while two accomplices were sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Additional district government counsel (ADGC) Braj Bhushan said, "The crime occurred on May 15, 2017, when masked men stormed
Mayank Agarwal's jewellery shop in Chhatta Bazaar, Mathura. The assailants, members of the Ranga-Billa gang, shot and killed Vikas Agarwal, Mayank's brother, and fellow jeweller Megh Agarwal. Mayank was also shot twice but survived. The gang fled with jewellery and cash worth Rs 5 crore."
"The seven convicted of murder and robbery include Rakesh alias Ranga, Kamesh alias Cheeni, Neeraj Chaturvedi – all three brothers, along with Vishnu Saini, Saurabh Yadav, Mahesh Yadav and Harshvardhan. Lakhan and Aditya, who were convicted of robbery, received 10-year prison terms. The case of one minor involved in the crime is still being heard in juvenile court. Another accused died during the trial," the ADGC added.
Mayank Agarwal, who survived the attack, expressed satisfaction with the court's decision.
