AGRA: A 25-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her husband and in-laws over dowry here. Identified as Manju, she was found hanging from the ceiling of her room on intervening night of Friday and Saturday following which her father Kalicharan filed a police complaint against her husband and in-laws, police said on Saturday afternoon.
As per victim’s father, “Three years back, Manju had tied knot with Dolly Singh, but since then he and his relatives had been torturing my daughter for dowry every single day.
On several occasion she had informed me over phone, as how her sister-in-law’s and husband along with others use to physically assault her and verbally abused her.”
The incident took place in Gopalpura colony of Shamshabad area. After the incident, the entire family of the accused Dolly Singh has been at large. On the basis of Kalicharan complaint, police filed an FIR against six people including husband of victim under IPC section 304 B (dowry death).
As per police, father-in-law Janak and brother-in-law Pratap have been arrested. The body of the victim has been sent for autopsy. According to National crime record bureau, in UP, 2,335 dowry deaths were reported in 2015.
