AGRA: Two

snakes

ended up creating quite a stir after they were found at two different locations in Agra and

Mathura

on Friday.

While a juvenile wolf

snake

was spotted inside a cupboard in the office of the additional district government counsel (civil) at Agra, an Indian Rock Python was found on

National Highway-2 near Raipura Jat village

in Mathura.

Abha Rani Agrawal, additional district government counsel (ADGC, Civil) at

Agra District and Sessions Court

, said, “This was the first ever sighting of a snake in or around my chamber. Terrified with the sight of a snake in my almirah, I immediately reported the incident to the Wildlife SOS NGO and they took it away.”

The six-foot-long Indian Rock Python was found slithering across the NH-2 highway. The massive constrictor stirred panic amongst commuters near the village. The snake was rescued successfully. Both the reptiles were kept under observation for a few hours and later released back into the wild.

Baiju Raj M.V, director, conservation projects, Wildlife SOS, said, “Increasing urbanisation, construction, shrinking habitats and loss of natural prey base has restricted the movement of wildlife in the area and often forces animals and reptiles to wander on to busy roads. Rescue operations like this can get very complicated as we need to ensure the safety of the public as well as the animal, in order to avoid unwanted conflicts.”
