Agra: A 14-year-old girl was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her house in Aligarh, police said on Wednesday.
The incident took place on Tuesday evening when the girl's mother returned home and found her body. Finding her unresponsive, she alerted the neighbours who informed the police. The girl was taken to govt hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Police said the girl had been under emotional distress following her parents' separation. Family members told police that the girl's father, a civil engineer based in Saudi Arabia, remarried in 2019 without a formal divorce, a development that is believed to have affected her mental wellbeing. The girl lived with her mother, a private school teacher, and two younger brothers in Aligarh, and had been undergoing counselling for stress-related issues.
DSP Sarvam Singh said the family did not wish to conduct a postmortem. "No police complaint has been filed in the matter. Investigation is ongoing and action will be taken accordingly," he said.
Locals said the couple married nearly 18 years ago, with the father working abroad for several years while the family remained in Aligarh. Marital relations allegedly began to deteriorate before the pandemic, culminating in his remarriage in Saudi Arabia.
