Agartala: Protesters of a Hindu group reportedly breached security barriers and trespassed into the Bangladesh Asst High Commission in Agartala on Monday where they removed the Bangladesh flag and attempted to damage property, despite the presence of police and TSR personnel.In reaction, Bangladesh urged India to take immediate action against protesters who broke into its consulate in Tripura. The MEA expressed regret regarding the incident and issued a statement saying, “The incident earlier today of the breach of premises at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala is deeply regrettable. Diplomatic and consular properties should not be targeted under any circumstance. The government is taking action to step up security arrangements for the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi and their deputy/assistant high commissions in the country.” According to reports, Hindu Sangharsh Samity, a right-wing organisation, conducted a demonstration on Monday before the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala. The protest addressed the oppression of minorities in Bangladesh, calling for the release of Iskcon member Chinmoy Das and cessation of religious persecution.The situation escalated when the agitated crowd forced their way through the entrance and removed the Bangladesh national flag from the premises. Additional security forces were subsequently deployed to disperse the crowd using minimal force. No Bangladeshi diplomatic personnel were visible during the incident.Earlier, numerous Hindu devotees gathered near the Gandhi statue along VIP Road, voicing their opposition to the persecution of Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians in Bangladesh. They urged the Assistant High Commissioner to convey India’s concerns to Bangladesh authorities, warning about potential deterioration in bilateral relations.
