Motha unhappy with govt treatment of cabinet ministers

Agartala: TIPRA Motha, BJP’s newly found ally in the Tripura govt, on Friday expressed its dissatisfaction with both the central and state govts. The party alleged that their ministers in the cabinet were not given due importance and that the tripartite agreement signed with Motha before the Lok Sabha election has not been honored by the Centre.TIPRA Motha president Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl said, “We are very much upset with the govt at the Centre and state. So, we are thinking differently. This govt neither respects the Constitution nor the direction of the courts. The HC directed the state to hold Village Council (VC) elections in the Autonomous District Council (ADC) last year but there is no action yet.”Hrangkhawl stated that TIPRA Motha, the ruling party of ADC, allied with BJP three months ago and fought together in both the seats of Tripura, securing the victory of BJP. However, no initiative has been taken on the agreement signed among Motha, the MHA, and the Tripura govt. He alleged that the governments seem to be disregarding the commitments based on which they received Motha’s support and won the elections.State Election Commissioner Saradindu Choudhury told TIPRA Motha leaders that the process of VC elections would begin after the panchayat polls and that the election would be held by December this year. However, this assurance failed to satisfy the party leaders, who pressed for holding simultaneous elections. Following Hrangkhal’s statement, Motha founder and ADC executive member Pradyot Kishore Debbarman hinted in a social media post that TIPRA Motha might contest the upcoming three-tier panchayat polls independently.
