Agartala: Three persons were presented before a local court by Sepahijala police on Wednesday, requesting custody for their alleged involvement in the severe assault of a married woman in a border village last week. The incident was reportedly linked to accusations of an extramarital relationship.
According to police reports, approximately seven people were allegedly involved in assaulting the victim and forcing her to walk unclothed in public in the Bagber area, which falls under Kalamchaura police station in Sonamura. The authorities were alerted after footage of the incident circulated on social media platforms two days later.
Surveillance footage revealed the accused individuals entering a residence and forcing the woman to appear undressed before village residents. Following a video analysis, three suspects — Srijit Das (22), Akash Sarkar (21), and Indrajit Sarkar (28) — were arrested on Tuesday. Police investigation has identified seven people connected to the case, with several suspects still evading arrest. Reports say the 28-year-old victim was allegedly discovered with her partner, leading to an attack by a group of people.
