EC orders inquiry into min luring voters with cash in Tripura

Agartala: The returning officer of Tripura East, Saju Vaheed A, on Wednesday ordered an inquiry into allegations of state agriculture and power minister Ratan Lal Nath luring voters with cash for pressing the EVM button in favour of the BJP candidate in the Lok Sabha constituency which will go to polls on April 26.The opposition CPM and Congress on Tuesday registered separate complaints with the Election Commission of India alleging that Nath had at an election rally in Khowai announced a cash reward of Rs 2 lakh for polling stations in five assembly segments under the poll-bound parliamentary constituency that record the highest percentage of votes.CPM state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury and Congress state president Asish Kumar Saha expressed serious concerns about Nath’s announcement, calling it an open provocation for false voting. tnn
