BSF said the body would be handed over to Bangladesh authorities after completing all formalities.
In response to the incident, the BSF held a sector commander level meeting with the Border Guard of Bangladesh on Tuesday. During the meeting, the BSF protested against the assault and illegal activities carried out by Bangladeshi miscreants inside Indian territory.
According to reports, the group of Bangladeshi miscreants, armed with sharp-edged weapons, attempted to smuggle contraband in the area under Salpokhar Border Out Post. When challenged by alert BSF troops, the miscreants surrounded and assaulted a jawan.
“They tried to snatch the riffle of one BSF jawan, in the ensuing scuffle one round of pump action gun was fired by the BSF party to deter the miscreants. But Bangladeshi miscreants continued with their assault and also inflicted a deep cut with a sharp cutter on one of the jawans,” BSF officials said. To protect themselves from the assaulting Bangladeshi miscreants, two rounds were fired in self-defence, causing the miscreants to flee.
