This Made-In-India device reduces nursing time, ICU stay
Mudit Dandwate and Gaurav Parchani’s Dozee is an AI-based contactless remote patient monitoring and early warning system.
Mudit graduated in mechanical engineering from IIT Mumbai in 2013. He previously worked as a vehicle dynamics expert at Altair Technologies where he designed, built, and raced four full-scale race cars. Gaurav graduated in mechanical engineering from IIT Indore in 2013. He too worked as a vehicle dynamics expert at Altair Technologies.
The device they have developed consists of a thin sheet of piezo-electric sensors, a data accumulation unit, and a communication unit. The sensors, when placed beneath the mattress under the upper thoracic region of the user, captures microvibrations produced by the body every time the heart pumps blood, by inhalation, exhalation, muscle twitches, tremors or body movements.
These signals are then precisely converted, by an AI engine, into biomarkers like heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, blood oxygen saturation, and skin temperature. It also tracks sleep quality while flagging indicators of sleep apnea.
Dozee works on a technology called ballistocardiography (BCG), a non-invasive method that tracks vibrations from every heartbeat, respiration and smallest of body movements. Mudit and Gaurav say that this automated patient monitoring through Dozee saves nearly 2. 5 hours of nursing time per patient every day. It also helps reduce the duration of ICU stay.
Dozee has been installed in over 8,000 beds in 380 hospitals covering 50 districts across India to monitor patients continuously. Last year, the technology was cleared by the US FDA, which means the product can be exported to the US.
Recently, Dozee raised $6 million in funding from new and existing investors.
