Thousands of users across the United States and around the world reported disruptions on Meta's platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, on Wednesday, according to outage-tracking website Downdetector.com.
The outage began around 12:50pm ET, with over 105,000 Facebook users and 70,000 Instagram users reporting issues. WhatsApp also experienced disruptions, affecting more than 12,000 users.
Meta has yet to issue a statement in response to the outage. Many users took to the social media platform X to share their experiences, with some encountering an error message stating, "Something went wrong," alongside a notification that Meta was working to resolve the issue.
This marks another instance of service interruptions for Meta's platforms this year. A global outage in early 2024 impacted hundreds of thousands of users for over two hours due to technical issues. In October, a separate disruption saw services largely restored within an hour.
