Ford recalls nearly 4.2 lakh vehicles over seat belt defect linked to injury risk
Ford Motor Co. is recalling nearly 4.2 lakh vehicles in the US due to a seat belt issue that could increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash, AP reported citing National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).The recall covers certain Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles from model years 2018 through 2022.According to an NHTSA report released on Tuesday, the issue involves seat belts that may inadvertently lock, preventing them from retracting or extending properly. The report said a seat belt that does not retract or extend could result in injury if a crash occurs. In some instances, occupants could also be injured if the seat belt retracts rapidly. The latest action replaces and expands on two previous NHTSA recalls related to the issue. The NHTSA report stated that Ford is aware of two warranty claims and two field reports connected to the recall. The automaker is also aware of one injury linked to the defect.Vehicle owners will receive notification letters by mail informing them about the recall.Owners can take their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealership, where both front seat belt retractors will be inspected. Any affected retractors will be replaced free of charge.Ford owners seeking additional information can contact the company's customer service at 1-866-436-7332, while consumers can also reach the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 for further details.
