FAA to examine United Airlines safety procedures

NEW DELHI: The US Federal Aviation Administration will be examining safety procedures at United Airlines following a series of incidents involving Boeing-manufactured planes.

The aircraft maker has been facing serious criticism, after several reports of safety issues, which includes an incident in January where a panel on a Boeing 737 MAX 9 Alaska Airlines jet came off during a flight.

United Airlines, which operates the largest fleet of 737 MAX 9s with 79 aircraft, has disclosed issues like poorly secured bolts on cap doors.

Sasha Johnson, United's vice president of corporate safety, informed employees that the FAA will intensify its oversight of the airline's safety protocols. She emphasized the need for a thorough evaluation of operational areas to enhance safety compliance.

She said United needed to take an "even closer look at multiple areas of our operation to ensure we are doing all we can to promote and drive safety compliance".


Recent safety incidents have prompted a reevaluation of procedures to ensure utmost safety measures are in place.

United Airlines, which became the largest US airline by traffic last year, has faced scrutiny due to various flight-related issues.

In a separate incident, United Airlines pilots reported a problem with the rudder pedals of a 737 MAX aircraft after landing in Newark, New Jersey in late February.
