Stock market today: Indian equity benchmark indices, Nifty50 and BSE Sensex, rallied in trade on Tuesday, snapping the three-day losing streak. The rise was driven by strong performance from major companies Reliance Industries and HDFC Bank.
The NSE Nifty, with 50 shares, increased by 140.20 points or 0.57 per cent to 24,821.10. The BSE Sensex, comprising 30 shares, rose by 446.93 points or 0.55 per cent to close at 81,337.95. During trading hours, it increased by 538.86 points or 0.66 per cent to 81,429.88.
Among Sensex companies, Reliance Industries showed a 2.21 per cent increase. Other gainers included Larsen & Toubro, Asian Paints, Tata Motors, Adani Ports, Tata Steel, Maruti, Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Finance and HDFC Bank.
On the contrary, Axis Bank, Tata Consultancy Services, Titan and ITC registered declines.
Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments Limited says, “Amidst lingering uncertainties over the ongoing US–India trade negotiations, the domestic equity market staged a modest recovery from intraday lows. Almost all the sectors ended in green, with metal, pharma, and realty leading the gains, while IT, financials, and FMCG lagged due to weak quarterly results. Investor sentiment remains cautious ahead of key global events, including policy decisions from the U.S. Fed and the August 1 reciprocal tariff deadline. Sustenance of this rally is likely to be positive in the near term with an eye on the above details, including Q1 results and this week's monthly expiry. For the Nifty50 index, 25,000 to 25,100 is likely to act as a restriction at the upper end."
FIIs sold equities worth Rs 6,082.47 crore on Monday, as per exchange records.
In Asian trading, Japan's Nikkei 225 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng declined, whilst South Korea's Kospi and Shanghai's SSE Composite finished positively.
European markets showed positive movement. American markets concluded Monday with mixed results.
The international oil standard Brent crude increased 0.63 per cent to USD 70.48 per barrel.
The stock markets had declined for three consecutive days until Monday.
