India is still a favourable investment spot for Taiwan firms despite violence on Wistron Corp’s premises near Bengaluru: Envoy

PUDUCHERRY: India is still a favourable

investment

destination for Taiwan businessmen despite violence at the Bengaluru premises of Wistron Corporation, a Taiwan-headquartered computers and computer peripherals firm, said Ben Wang, director-general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in Chennai.

In December, the workers at the Narasapura plant near Bengaluru went on a rampage and hurled stones, damaged windowpanes, furniture, computers and accessories besides vehicles following a dispute over payment of salaries.

A delegation led by Wang called on Puducherry chief minister V Narayanasamy on Friday and held discussions with him on improving the bilateral trade between the Union territory and Taiwan.

The Taiwan government remains steadfast in its policy to forge a strong economic tie with India, said Wang in a statement after meeting Narayanasamy. However, he urged the state and Union governments to provide better services like clean water, stable power, land and infrastructure, simplifying visa application procedure and incentives for Taiwanese investors.

Wang invited Narayanasamy to visit Taiwan in the post-pandemic timeframe to boost bilateral economic cooperation.
