GMR Airports joins UN Global Compact to 'boost sustainability efforts'

NEW DELHI: GMR Airports Ltd, the biggest airport operator in India, Monday it has joined the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) - a voluntary initiative established in 2000 to encourage businesses worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies. It requires companies to align their operations with 10 principles in areas such as human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption.

UNGC provides a platform for businesses to contribute to achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By participating, companies commit to transparency and accountability, reporting annually on their progress. The initiative aims to foster a global movement for responsible corporate governance and business practices, creating positive change in the world.

By joining the UNGC, GMR Airports has pledged to align its operations with the initiative’s Ten Principles. Kiran Kumar Grandhi, CEO & MD of GMR Airports, said on the development, “Joining the UN Global Compact marks a pivotal step in our journey toward becoming a global leader in sustainable aviation. This partnership strengthens our commitment to creating resilient airports that connect communities while protecting our planet. By aligning with the UNGC's principles, we aim to inspire positive change throughout the industry.”
