Flipkart sees nearly 2X increase in searches for 5G smartphones
CHENNAI: India is all set to ride the 5G wave as 5G-enabled smartphones are in demand for quicker downloads, smoother gaming experience, and better video calls among other reasons.
There has been an almost 2X increase in searches for 5G smartphones on Flipkart's platform in the first half of 2022 (January-June 2022) over the same period last year, the e-commerce company said on Monday.
Among the top five states where customers are looking for 5G smartphones are Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, the company added, noting that this trend is further expected to intensify with the recent spectrum auctions.
“Over the past few quarters, we have witnessed an increasing demand for 5G smartphones that will offer higher internet speed across metros and smaller cities, with nearly 75% of the searches coming from tier 2 and beyond cities," Kunal Gupta, senior director, Mobiles at Flipkart, said.
In recent quarters, brands including Motorola, Samsung, OPPO, Vivo, Realme, and POCO, and others have launched new range of 5G smartphones across various price points starting at Rs 12,999. According to sales trends revealed by Flipkart, the demand for 5G smartphones in the Rs 10,000-15,000 has seen nearly 4X growth in the first half of 2022 as against the same period last year.
Flipkart said it also offers 60-minute doorstep delivery in more than 10 cities including Bangalore, Chennai, Gurugram and Ghaziabad, Hyderabad, Kolkata, New Delhi, Noida, Mumbai and Pune. It has also introduced affordable payment constructs like No Cost EMI, Airtel Exclusive offer, Buy Now Pay Later, product exchanges and others.
