ED attaches more assets of Nirav Modi worth Rs 30 crore

NEW DELHI: ED on Wednesday said it has made fresh attachment of Rs 30 crore worth of assets of fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi in the PNB money-laundering scam, taking the total attachment in the case to nearly Rs 2,700 crore, in India and overseas. The latest attachment includes land, buildings and bank deposits in India.

Of the total attachments, ED has already returned Rs 1,052 crore to a consortium of banks from the confiscated assets.

The diamond merchant has been accused in a banking fraud of more than Rs 6,500 crore. He is currently lodged in a prison in the UK, and his bail has been denied seven times.

ED filed two chargesheets against Nirav and others in the case. Simultaneously, the extradition proceedings against the fugitive bizman are at final stage in London, ED stated. TNN
