Anil Ambani appears before ED in 40,000cr money laundering case
NEW DELHI: A day after ED attached his Mumbai residence worth More than Rs 3,500 crore Anil Ambani appeared before the agency at its headquarters here on Thursday to record his statements in a money laundering case against his R-ADAG group entity Reliance Communication.
Ambani and his associates are being investigated for a banking fraud of more than Rs 40,000 crore involving Reliance Communication (Rcom). This was Ambani's second appearance before the agency. He was questioned on August last year in the same case, but had skipped subsequent summons.
The interrogation on Thursday followed his promise to Supreme Court he would appear before ED.
The agency has, meanwhile, carried out multiple search operations at his residence and offices, as well as premises of some of his close associates.
The ED had earlier arrested one of Ambani's close aides, Punit Garg following the "discovery" of the purchase of an apartment in Manhattan, New York worth over Rs 70 crore, allegedly using the proceeds of crime laundered from bank loans one of his group entities had received in India.
