On the road
'Road trips' has been a popular backdrop in many movies, both in Bollywood and Hollywood. Now, for the first time, this concept is being explored in Indian television.
With Star One launching Yeh Dil Chahe More, a serial shot extensively on the Mumbai-Delhi highway is the first of its kind. The story is about a young boy, Veer and girl, Tara who board a lorry to make a trip to Mumbai from Delhi. Having run away from their homes to follow their individual dreams, they witness numerable instances which help them mature as individuals.
So, what's great about watching a serial based on a road trip? Shivani Basu, a travel writer, gets philosophical, "I guess a journey as a setting would metaphorically signify the journey of life and its uncertainties. That is why most movies with such plots involve a lot of emotion and romance."
With a road trip being the natural backdrop of the plot, the story automatically starts to progress with the turning of the wheels. A journey that promises to be full of adventure, comical situations, mischief and conflict, eventually, the characters take the road to self discovery.

On a real note, Kartik Damani, an avid traveller shares, "I love backpacking my way to new places at least once a year. One never knows what might happen. I have met many wonderful people and seen many exciting things on these road trips. When it is so much fun in reality, it surely makes a great idea for a plot of a serial."
Waking Up in Reno, Kalifornia, Road Trip and quite recently, the Britney Spears-starrer Crossroads are some of the films based on this concept in Hollywood. Homeward, the same plot has been exploited in films like Bombay To Goa, Dil Hai Ki Maanta Nahin and recently, Bunty Aur Babli.
Now with the 'road trip' formula being the crux of Yeh Dil Chahe More, it might just inspire us to hit the road and make a journey of our own. Starting tonight, the serial will be aired Monday to Thursday, at 9 pm on Star One.
