And this time it''s the women in Mumbai who are waiting as their male partners take a long time to dress

The men call it metrosexuality, the women blame it on sheer vanity. Whatever the name, the fact remains that men these days take a long long time to dress up.

At the recent BT anniversary bash, several women were heard complaining of how they had to wait all dressed and made up, twiddling their thumbs while their husbands/boyfriends took forever to choose what clothes to wear.

Stylist Adhuna Akhtar confirms, "My husband takes five minutes to get ready. But in my experience, men do take longer than women to dress up. They are as vain as women are." Fashion designer Anna Singh agrees, "My husband takes longer than me to dress. Although it is person-specific, many men do take longer. I think it has to do with their indecision with what to wear." Housewife Radhika Ved agrees, "My husband takes two minutes to get ready. But that''s only after he''s taken an hour to decide what to wear. If we have to leave by 7.30 pm, he''ll hang around around till 7 pm and then start deciding his attire. At the end, his clothes are strewn all over the place."

VJ and actor Maria Goretti says, "Arshad takes at least one-and-half hour. He''ll first go to the terrace to smoke, take a long shower, then he''ll contemplate some more. He then takes out a suit, discards it for another and so on. Then there are the shoes. It is extremely irritating because he polishes them himself. Don''t ask me why men do it, I''ve yet not been able to figure it out." Adhuna believes it has something to do with dressing right. The power dressing phenomenon, she says, where one dresses in a manner to make an impression. Says Jaya Vaishnav, a software consultant, "It has become so important to wear right. My husband''s starts debating what to wear -- from what shoes to buy to whether to gel his hair or not. It''s infuriating to say the least."

But her husband Vishal thinks women are faster because dressing up is such a habit with them. "It''s because women have been doing it for so long that dressing up comes naturally to them."
