An artillery officer, Brig. SK Chatterji is a graduate of Defence Services Staff College, and Senior Command course at the Indian Army’s War College. He has commanded a regiment in high altitude area, a brigade in the deserts, followed by a brigade in intense counter insurgency environment. He retired as the Deputy Director General Public Information at the Army HQ, New Delhi, and was responsible for the Army’s global media engagement and perception management operations.
A prolific writer, he has written Vintage Guns of India, a pioneering work. He has co-authored the book: Home of the Brave (a history of Rashtriya Rifles, the Indian Army’s counter insurgency force). He has a chapter in the book: Know India Better. The officer has also edited the book The Guardsman, a coffee table book on the famous Brigade of Guards. He was also deeply involved in collation of history of the Army’s Artillery Regiment.
He has over 300 articles on various subjects in newspapers and military magazines, mostly in India, and a substantial number in global publications like Reuters, Diplomat, South China Morning Post, Asia Times, India Abroad, IO Sphere (US Army’s Publication) and a few more.
He is also a commentator and panelist on premium Indian TV channels and news agencies on issues relating to national defence and global security. Less
