Suzuki and SkyDrive to produce electric 'flying cars': Details explained

Suzuki Motor Corp recently announced its collaboration with SkyDrive to produce 'flying cars' or electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The eVTOL aircraft will be manufactured at a Suzuki Group factory in Central Japan, which aims to start production in the spring of 2024, states Suzuki.
SkyDrive will establish a wholly-owned subsidiary to produce the eVTOL aircraft, while Suzuki will help in various aspects of preparation for the manufacturing, including talent acquisition, according to Suzuki.
Headquartered in Toyota in central Japan, SkyDrive has a trading house Itochu Corp, a tech firm NEC Corp and an energy company Eneos Holdings Inc among the key shareholders.

Suzuki and SkyDrive signed an agreement for collaboration in research, development and marketing of eVTOL aircrafts in March 2022.
Established in 2018, SkyDrive started the first testing of flying cars in 2020. The SD-03 was the first single-seater flying car that marked its public debut in 2020. Later in 2022, the company released sketches of the SD-05 and is working to introduce its productinon-spec model at the 2025 World Expo in Osaka, Japan.
