Gurugram-based automotive technology solutions provider Sona Comstar has crossed the 5 million milestone in the cumulative production of differential assemblies.
What is a differential assembly? How does it work?A differential is a mechanical system consisting of three drive shafts that enables the rotational speed of one shaft to be the average of the speeds of the other two.
This device finds widespread application in car’s drive axles, where it allows the wheels at each end to rotate at different speeds during cornering.
The company commenced the production of differential assemblies at its Gurugram facility in 2008, expanded operations to the Pune plant in 2014, and inaugurated another plant in Manesar in 2019.
Sona achieved the milestone of 1 million differential assemblies in 2017 and subsequently reached 2 million in 2020. Within a span of less than three years,
Sona Comstar has now accomplished the feat of producing 5 million differential assemblies.
Sona Comstar has been actively involved in the design and production of differential assemblies and driveline components for electric vehicles in diverse sectors including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, and off-highway vehicles.
Vikram Verma, CEO of Sona Comstar's Driveline business said that the automotive industry's shift towards electrification and automation, the company aims to capitalise on its engineering expertise to meet the changing demands of the market.
