Mumbai woman’s Uber ride cancelled after driver details mismatch: Here’s how riders can stay safe and avoid scams
The ride-hailing services are generally safe, but at times, the services throw up weird scenarios. For instance, in Mumbai, it has been reported that a woman booked an Uber cab but found that the details of the car and the driver did not match what she had been shown by the application. She inquired about the discrepancy, but he immediately cancelled the ride and drove away. Experts say that it is important to verify the details of the driver and the cab before getting into the cab. It has been pointed out that it is better to take a few precautions to avoid awkward situations. Checking the vehicle number, driver photo, and ride details on the app can help riders stay alert and prevent potential scams.
The woman had requested a ride from Andheri to Bandra. When the driver arrived, the number plate and ID did not match the app. The woman reportedly asked for clarification before getting into the car. The driver cancelled the ride and drove off. The ride was cancelled, and therefore, there was no way of reporting the ride because it was cancelled. Some users have complained that the app lacks a support system. It seems that when the ride is cancelled, there is no way of tracing the ride, and this might cause frustration for the users who wish to complain.
The incident gained viral status after a person shared it on social media. According to reports, the intention of the person was to caution others to be careful about the details of the driver. People responded to the post, sharing their experiences and opinions. Some people claimed that they have faced issues with cancelled rides due to incorrect details. Others claimed that it could be a case of shared credentials or device usage. One person mentioned that taking a screenshot of the booking can be helpful in reporting the incident. Others mentioned that people should contact the police if they feel unsafe.
Riders can take simple steps to stay safe. Experts say small checks make a big difference.
Experts advise that one must be vigilant. One must only book through the app and avoid sharing personal details with the drivers. Social media has also been used by some people, and they have given tips such as screenshots and calling the customer care services. Some have observed that the app has the ability to log the details and suspend the accounts if necessary.

Simple steps to verify Uber or Ola drivers and avoid risks
Riders can take simple steps to stay safe. Experts say small checks make a big difference.
- Before getting into the cab
- Check the car number, model, and driver photo against the app. Make sure every detail matches.
- Use Uber’s 4-digit PIN verification system before the ride begins. It ensures the driver is authentic.
- Confirm the OTP in Ola before starting the trip. Never start the ride without this step.
- Share your live trip details with family or friends. Most apps allow real-time tracking.
- Check that the child lock is off so you can exit quickly if needed.
- Tips for making sure your ride matches the app
- Driver ID and license check: Ask the driver politely to show their official ID and compare it with the app photo.
- Vehicle inspection: Look at the car carefully. Check for stickers, number plates, and the condition of the vehicle. Any mismatch is a red flag.
- Use the app features fully: Uber’s “Verify Your Ride” feature generates a unique 4-digit PIN for each trip. Only start when it matches. Ola has a similar OTP system.
- Route confirmation: Open the app map and check if the route aligns with your destination. If the driver tries to take a strange detour, ask why.
- Device awareness: Only use your personal device to book rides. Avoid using shared accounts or unfamiliar devices.
- While waiting for the ride
- Wait in a safe, well-lit, and busy area.
- If possible, stay inside a shop, office, or building until the car arrives.
- Keep an eye on the app and avoid distractions like your phone or music.

It's a responsibility of rider who has any doubt Firstly he should argue/discuss with driver and thereafter he fill safe he should proceed further. I have also observe that many Women when the car arrive with mismatch even though they travel. Also i have saw that on bike taxi the Women who book doesn't see number or driver properly and also sit like they are close girlfriend. Every person should be alert in my view, if doubt cancelled it. This is only way.Read allPost comment
