Maruti Suzuki begins production at 2nd Kharkhoda plant: Key details
India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India, has started commercial production at the second manufacturing plant at its Kharkhoda facility in Haryana. The new plant adds an annual production capacity of 2.5 lakh units, doubling the total installed capacity at the Kharkhoda site to 5 lakh units per year.
With this expansion, Maruti Suzuki’s combined annual production capacity across its facilities in Gurugram, Manesar and Kharkhoda in Haryana, along with Hansalpur in Gujarat, has now reached 26.5 lakh units. The company had earlier announced plans to add 5 lakh units of manufacturing capacity during FY2026-27, and the new plant forms part of that expansion strategy.
The Kharkhoda facility is expected to play a major role in Maruti Suzuki’s future production plans. Once all planned phases are completed, the site will have the capability to manufacture up to 10 lakh vehicles annually, making it one of Suzuki’s biggest four-wheeler manufacturing hubs globally.
At present, the automaker produces the compact SUV Brezza and the mid-size SUV Victoris at the Kharkhoda plant. The company has been steadily increasing production capacity amid rising demand for SUVs in the Indian market and to strengthen its export potential.
The Kharkhoda project was officially inaugurated in August 2022, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the facility. Since then, the plant has become a key part of Maruti Suzuki’s long-term manufacturing roadmap in India.
