Rolls-Royce Spectre revealed as the luxury brand's first EV: Range, specs, performance

Rolls-Royce has finally marked its entry into the ever-growing EV space by introducing the Spectre, its first fully-electric car. The British luxury car manufacturer says that the Spectre marks the beginning of an all-electric era for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, and “demonstrates how perfectly Rolls-Royce is suited to electrification”.

The marque has revealed that the Spectre went through the most exhaustive testing programme Rolls-Royce has ever undertaken, in order to be prepared for the most demanding buyers in the world. The Spectre is being subjected to a journey of over 2.5 million kilometres, which will be completed in 2023.

Rolls-Royce is calling the Spectre an 'Ultra-Luxury Electric Super Coupe', and promises that this is as good as an EV can get. The electric car will serve as a successor to the Phantom Coupe. Talking about the Spectre's design, the BMW influence is clearly visible at the front-end with its split headlamp design that seems to have taken an inspiration from the I7 as well as the latest 7-Series.

The manufacturer has decided to retain its signature grille, with the car featuring a dual-tone design - unmistakably Rolls-Royce. The rear is no different, and if we were to go by the design, it's pretty hard to tell that the Spectre is actually an EV. However, the 23-inch alloy wheel design, which by the way is the largest ever offered on a Rolls-Royce car, gives it away.

As for any Rolls-Royce vehicle, the interior can be customised with infinite bespoke options. The manufacturer has revealed that power, acceleration and range figures are still being "refined", however, we do have estimate numbers. The Spectre is expected to have an all-electric range of about 520 km as per the WLTP test cycle. The electric motor is expected to produce around 577 horsepower and a massive 900 Nm of peak torque. This will help the mighty electric Rolls sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds.

Rolls-Royce has revealed that bookings for the Spectre are now open, with deliveries expected to commence in the last quarter of next year. Price-wise, The Spectre EV will be positioned between the Cullinan and Phantom.
