Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella vs Maruti e Vitara: Top-end variants compared
Toyota has entered India’s mainstream electric SUV space with the launch of the Urban Cruiser Ebella E3 at Rs 23.60 lakh, ex-showroom. The new EV shares its underpinnings and core technology with the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, making the two electric SUVs closely related mechanically. With the top-end Ebella E3 now launched, here’s a closer look at how the two electric SUVs stack up against each other.
Both SUVs share the same 2,700mm wheelbase, though the Ebella is slightly longer by 10mm. Up front, the e Vitara gets a sharper design with heavy cladding and Y-shaped LED DRLs, while the Ebella adopts a cleaner dual-tone ‘hammerhead’ look with segmented DRLs. The e Vitara also offers fog lamps, which are absent on the Ebella. At the rear, the e Vitara and Ebella use differently-styled tail-lamps.
Toyota has currently announced the price only for the top-spec Urban Cruiser Ebella E3, which costs Rs 23.60 lakh, ex-showroom. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki’s top-spec e Vitara Alpha DT variant comes at Rs 20.01 lakh, ex-showroom. It is also offered with the BaaS subscription which reduces the upfront cost to Rs 14.51 lakh, ex-showroom, with a battery rental of Rs 4.39 per km.
Both the Urban Cruiser Ebella E3 and the Maruti e Vitara Alpha use the larger 61kWh battery pack paired with a front-mounted electric motor. The setup produces 128 kW, equivalent to around 174 bhp, along with 193 Nm of torque in the Toyota. The claimed driving range for the Ebella stands at up to 543 km.
The e Vitara also offers similar battery specifications and charging capabilities. Maruti Suzuki claims DC fast charging from 10-80 percent can be completed in around 45 minutes, while AC charging options include both 7.4kW and 11kW chargers. The SUV also gets multiple levels of regenerative braking and dedicated drive modes including Eco, Normal and Sport.
Both EVs come loaded with features such as ventilated front seats, ambient lighting with 12 colour choices, sliding and reclining rear seats, a panoramic sunroof and a JBL premium audio system. The dashboard houses a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. These top end variants additionally receive Level 2 ADAS functions, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and lane keep assist.
