NHTSA Orders Recall of More Than 120,000 Tesla Vehicles in the United States

In a recent development, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that Tesla is recalling 120,423 vehicles in the United States. This recall is prompted by concerns over the potential unlocking of cabin doors in the event of a crash. Notably, this announcement comes just days after Tesla's disclosure of another recall.

The automaker, led by Elon Musk, has taken remedial action by issuing an over-the-air (OTA) software update to tackle the identified problem, as confirmed by the NHTSA. The recall specifically impacts 2021-2023 Model S and Model X vehicles, which are found to be non-compliant with certain federal safety standards pertaining to side-impact protection.

This move follows Tesla's recent and substantial recall of over 2 million vehicles in the U.S., marking its largest-ever recall. The extensive recall covered nearly the entirety of Tesla's vehicles on American roads. The company's stated objective for this significant recall was the installation of new safety measures in its Autopilot advanced driver-assistance system, in response to safety concerns raised by a federal regulator.
